Automated student presence registration increases accuracy and minimises admin costs.

Students' belongings are left in classrooms, which is a challenge in terms of finding, returning or removing from the property. At worst these items can innocently create a security risk, which in turn increases cost of security.

Kaba provides electronic and mechanical solutions that help you deal with schedule changes and varied access requirements through the day.

Electronic access management from Kaba

Electronic access control allows you to keep specific doors open only when rooms are in use. Imagine a classroom door auto-lock at 12:30h. After lunch, the lecturer opens the door using an ID card. The door auto-locks again at 18:00h. Outside of these times, only security and cleaning personnel have authorised access.

For a back-up or incident record all  door activity is registered. Students have peace of mind and can leave their belongings in the room. Meanwhile the university gains control over cost of security.

Kaba's mechanical master key systems

A Kaba master key system (MKS) works in a similar manner to an electronic system:

  • Offers specific authorisation levels needed based on user and room
  • Colour-coded key clips identifying which doors a certain key can open
  • Can be used for entrances as well as for in-room cabinets and cupboards

Presence registration terminals

Student presence registration (which stems from the ‘Bologna Reform’) is an essential requirement for universities. Credit accruals by students are measured and used for awarding qualifications, grant payments and lecturers’ remuneration.  But implementing such a system manually involves a lot of costs. Kaba can reduce implementation costs of such a process with customised presence registration terminals.

  • Time-recording terminals are installed at lecture room entrances and other study zones
  • Students 'clock in' as they arrive and 'clock out' as they leave by presenting their student cards to a  terminal
  • The relevant terminal registers the arrival and departure times and sends the data to the main system
  • The system creates reports showing the credit status of the registered students as required or at pre-defined dates
  • Data can be used immediately for awarding qualifications, grant payments and lecturers’ remuneration
